New chipper -cant decide

stay away from hydraulic trailer jacks.
Ours came with one. Everyone was ooooing and ahhhing over it until I asked "What happens when the battery is dead, or the engine won't start, or there is some hydraulic issue?" The salesman said they offer an electric pump option, so the jack will still work if the engine is down. I said "So you want us to add another expensive option just in case the first expensive option breaks?!?" Crazy! So far, so good, but we know the day is coming when we need to get the floor jack, or reach over with the loader and a chain to lift the tongue.

This year the BC1000Xl I mounted on our 70' bucket had the bolts loosen off on the drum bearing behind the drive pulley, an impossible place to easily inspect.

2 fell out 1 broke off and 1 was still holding. Lost a day with that truck as I had to lift the drum out to remove the sheared off bolt, then of course replace the knives.

I have 2 bandit 255's best chippers I've ever run for production, killing ash everyday for 16 months straight and no problems but maintence.we are chipping everything that fits through them getting about 45-60 yards of chips each a day , we have 5 bandit 250's and they are solid but don't hold a candle to 255 especially the one with the HD package

In ran Vermeer for years then made the switch to morbark and will never look back. I have a 12" disc -M12D and a brand new this spring M15R. I managed to get a tier 3 142HP CAT in my new 15R instead of tier 4 with all the emissions garbage on it. The 12" disc doesn't process smaller limbs as nice as a drum but it cuts a perfect chip when chipping logs and throws chips HARD! The 15R is a tank!! Yes its heavy but its built to last and I would put it against an 18" vermeer any day. I got the solid non fold up feed table because we feed it with the big and mini skid steer. My 15" vermeer had non stop problems with feed rollers plugging. Chunks of dead ash or oak would get jammed behind the feed rollers and stop it. I would have to pop the springs off and pry the rollers apart with a big bar. Waste of time and a pain in the a$$. Then there is the electrical garbage on the vermeers. sensors, switches, solenoids always screwing up. In my opinion there is no need for that stuff on a chipper. We are chipping wood not splitting the atom. Morbarks are built tough and are a simple design and they eat wood. We are cutting dead ash about 4 out of 5 days a week and I have never had a feed roller jam up on my morbark like the vermeer did with dead hard wood. My experience with vermeer is that they are under built, under powered and over priced! They also lock out all their part numbers so you have to buy from vermeer only $$$$$! I was looking at the new vermeers at the TCIA expo with that wireless "tree commander". A cool idea but what happens when that starts screwing up? Wireless remote control box out side in the rain, snow, salt, vibrating while chipping.....NO THANKS! You get a lot more infeed pulling power with morbark or bandit with the hydraulic down pressure compared to the spring setup with the vermeer. Its handy for limby or crotchy material. I would say go with morbark. A friend of mine just got rid of his year old vermeer BC1500 because it was non stop problems. He got a 1390xp Bandit. I have only seen it in action once and it will chew!! Stay away from vermeer. Try morbark or bandit. Good luck!

This doesn't show you how great a morbark is but it does show you how s#itty a vermeer is!! You don't wanna be that guy standing behind that vermeer waiting to put the next piece in while it takes 2" bites at a time! TIME = MONEY!!!

damn jeff how tall is the truck your chipping into! thats a solid chipper right there. just keep an eye on the welds on the end of the shoot, ours rattled off eventually and is now a snub nose.

That's one sharp lookin' truck, Jeff!
(the sideways pic being a result of your inhabiting a land of avacadoes, sunshine, and pot, but the full size pic comes out fine)

The gas chipper out performed those two , thats crazy

Yep, like Jesse just said, I picked up a TAC 730 from Lumberjack ( Carl ) just last week as my backup/spare chipper. Great guy to do business with by the way!

Hopefully the roads stay bare until you get that shiny new machine home Devon. Nothing like towing a brand new chipper home through salt and slop!:vomito::cry: I had the oil undercoat guy at my shop today for 5 hours doing trucks, chippers, trailers etc. I was in the drive thru with the 250 after it got oiled and there was some over spray on the exhaust and it was smoking like a pig! I think the lady behind me was ready to call the fire dept!! LOL
