Nesbit Area Residents without Gas Service
NESBIT, TN -- About 80 homes are without gas service in the Nesbit area today after a gas line was damaged by a tree trimming company. The four-inch line, located in Southaven between U.S. 51 and Star Landing Road, was damaged around 12:30 p.m., said Atmos Energy spokesman Robert Lesley. Lesley said no one was injured when the leak occurred and it was quickly capped by Atmos crews. But the main gas line had to be shut off and extra Atmos crews from Houston, Miss., had to be brought in to repair the damaged line. Crews will work through the night to get service restored to the 80 homes, Lesley said. “Once we get the damaged line repaired and purged of air in the system we can begin to get those 80 customers back in service,” he said. Southaven police and fire crews responded to the leak and shut down U.S. 51 and Star Landing Road for two hours today. The roads were reopened by police by 2:20 p.m. Southaven fire Capt. Malena Alderman said they did not have to evacuate nearby homes in the area. “We checked the area for gas levels and everything was fine after they capped off the damaged line,” she said. She said they sent two engine companies and a battalion company to secure the scene shortly after it was reported. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/oct/13/hernando-coldwater-residents-without-gas-service-b
