Nasty Pine

All in all it worked out. Not that that's how you should view your everyday scenarios. Just glad everyone went home in one piece and still breathing on their own. My opinion is your boss is a jack wagon. Dumb luck eventually runs out. Whether it's 2 weeks or fifteen years later it catches up. Kudos to you for caring about your crew.

Maybe this particular option has already been mentioned, but sometimes it works for the climber to only remove nearly everything above the snag, leaving just a nub to hold the hung up tree in place. The climber then comes down and cuts a chunk out of the hung tree's base, allowing the tip of that tree to drop below its snag. Lowing and holding lines can still be used, but no on need be in the trees.

That was my thought exactly. Rig it just below where it is hung up, get as much material off the top as possible, then chunk it from the base, continuously/periodically lowering and chunking. The advantages are: removing the climber from the tree bearing the brunt of the rigging forces, and keeping the load at a more optimum angle. It's amazing what kind of weight a tree can sustain when the load is predominantly vertical.

overheard a aboriginal term from near alice springs describing taking a walk as driving the foot falcon - wonder if thats his car?
given the make of car and year of manufacture versus the age of the tree thats been there a while.
