my old friend the Pinnacle must go(couger gripes?)

I'm about to retire my old Buckingham Pinnacle, somewhere around 8yrs.old.Loved it,lots of great climbs and memories, but ins. guy says it must go and it is pretty beat up & getting kind of uncomfortable.I looked at the Ergovation, and I can't put a price on comfort, but i'm married and poor (she's mean and takes all my money).then i tried on the Weaver Couger;comfy, and the one i tried on comes w/the bowsons seat like my old one and it's a bit more reasonable, especially around now! Just wondering if any one has any gripes w/it or regrets about it before i buy,or should I do some more looking around? Feels like i'm loosing an old comrade of many years and campians who helped keep me safe!! R.I.P. old friend.

I sure warmed up to my Cougar - that's all I climb in now.

As you will see in Rant and Rave, I'm not thrilled with the bridge, the older style bridge that is.

According to rich (my cougar thread in rant and rave) the fading and lumping is cosmetic rather than serious.

You may find our exchanges interesting because it brought out a lot of things. As far as the Cougar goes, the only complaint was the bridge and I'm now convinced it's safe and sounds like the new cougars will have rich's bridge, that'd make it just about perfect.

Seems like I read that they are going to move the gear loops forward some too.

how do you replace the bridge on the cougar, do you have to have it spliced onto the saddle? or can you take it apart somehow?

It comes apart. You can take one side of the leg strap loose from the saddle and the ring the bridge is attached to is connected to the harness by a small sewn, webbing loop. Slide the loop and ring free from the webbing it attaches to and and pull it and the ring through the girth hitch of the rope bridge termination. So that end of the bridge is free. Then just pull the free end through the girth hitch on the other side.
