My new Hobbs H2

I can’t say enough about this device since finally making the purchase a few weeks ago…..nor do I have time to at the moment. I will, however, write a review of the Hobbs at arbtalk.co.uk over the weekend. There it’ll join several other informative product reviews …...might be of interest if you are considering buying new lowering device, as I was last month. In the meantime, here’s some video from the last couple of weeks.

It would be great if this thread could run quietly without transpiring into yet another Hobbs v the equally superb GRCS debate…..

For the record, I’m satisfied I made the right decision in choosing the Hobbs to suit my personal circumstances and preferences……and despite my initial reservations, cost didn’t influence the decision at all. However, that is all they are, MY circumstances and preferences.

Some nice rigging shots in the video, although the youtube quality ruins it somewhat. It might even be an idea to turn up your speaker volume so you can hear the device working for those clips where it’s difficult to see what’s happening.

Great video. I loved it. You can make a cheap crank out of 1" (27mm?) pipe that's a little easier to use on lighter lifts than the factory spud bar.
Regards,
Phil

OMG.

You are the man, Reg! What a terrific shot of the huge piece coming towards the camera around 50 sec. mark!

Thank you for taking the time to share!

Agreed, you better get a patent on that camera angle Reg! before every tree nut with cheap digi camera steals your idea and sells it to Warner Bros.

Nice video...what diameter rope are you using with most of those big chunks? 5/8" or 3/4"?

[/ QUOTE ]

We're in mm over here and I think that was 19 or 20. So I'm guessing thats 3/4.

Thanks

3/4 is a big fat rope Reg! Were tied in to the same point that those pieces were lowered from?

I'm talking about those big pine heads, not the gay poplar chunks!

You guys look like you've owned the device for years.

Thanks for taking the time to put together the video. It would make a great advertisement for the HOBBS device, IMO.

I admire your ability to get such a fine collection of short film clips and make it into a very excellent presentation.
It is truely amazing that with the right tool you can be so much more productive and safe in the field.
It appears that you made a sound decision in your purchase of the Hobb's H-2 lowering device.
Right on the money Reg......

The conifer was actually a deodar cedar and I was tied in elsewhere.

Cedar? So even heavier than if it were pine or conifer. Good work, and no wonder your tied in elsewhere, I wouldn't lower pieces like that off my anchor point/stem.
