Morbark cyclone chipper

just looking for input on these machines. A local dealer has a low hour morbark 9 " cyclone with a cat diesel. It would be for a pruning and small removal crew. The money is right.....we are demoing it tomorrow. He mentioned a centrifugal clutch which worries me. Thoughts?

Centrifugal clutch would be weird, are you sure he knows what he's

he said its a direct drive unit in a later email. Compares it to a pto.
It will be the first I've seen. I know this rep though and he has sold ALOT of chippers ALOT, and he said its the first he has ever seen. I'm gonna throw some red oak at it in see what happens :)

I have heard of centrifugal clutches on small machines before. Never run a chipper with one, but I'm guessing most of us have run a chainsaw or 2 with one. ;)

It doesn't strike me as a bad idea: Smaller, simpler, cheaper. So long as it can transmit the engine power, we're good. Why are you thinking weird, @classictruckman ?

Never heard of a centrifugal clutch on a diesel let alone a chipper, that's why it would be weird, most cheaper chippers use an automotive style clutch. Centrifugal clutches are usually installed on higher rpm engines, like 2 stroke gas engines.

Vermeer northeast had it, not sure if they still have it. Call there ask for tony crane and tell him I let you know about it. Jason from northeast tree care. He is a straight shooter

My Morbark M8D with 48hp diesel Kubota had centrifugal clutch and it was awesome. Get the engine running, get the RPMs up, then get to work.

What chipper are you using now Nick? Why did you let the Morbark M8D go? (If you did) I'm moving to a smaller rig set up and I'm curious about your set up choices.
Thanks.. Mike.

Does anybody have a Morbark Cyclone 8 with a Caterpillar in it. I could use some pictures of the starter wiring. A wire broke off and I put it back the only place that seemed right but has not been right since. Let me know.

Does cyclone 8 have a clutch
Also I had major issues with mine overheating.
I blew the engine and had a brand new engine with a themostat and water pump and put a new radiator on and it still over heated. If I never put anything in it over 3 inches it was typically fine. I had to blow out the radiator daily/ multiple times a day if doing dead stuff.

The gas engines are probably fine but I had the perkipillar diesel.....

I would steer clear of the diesel personally. It also jams up wicked hard with side branches regardless of the engine.

I hate this chipper....there are bandit 90xp with winch mounts for similar money. Kind of rare but thats what I would shoot for.
