A Monessen man working on a high-voltage power line in Redstone Township, Fayette County, became the second man killed in the last three months while working on the Mon/Fayette Expressway project.

Ralph Wayne Greely, 51, was pronounced dead at the Brownsville Tri-County Hospital at 11:18 a.m., according to the Fayette County Coroner's office.

Doug Colafella, a spokesman for Allegheny Power, said Greely, an employee for Us Utilities of Ellicott, Md., was working in a bucket truck along Simpson Road and came in contact with a 25-kilovolt distribution line located at the top of a utility pole at a job site along Simpson Road.

Colafella said the victim was transported to Uniontown Hospital but died en route to the hospital.

Verizon spokesman Lee Gierczynski said Greely was performing work that was subcontracted by Verizon.

"We're aware of this tragedy," Gierczynski said last night, adding that company officials plan to contact representatives of Us Utilities today to seek details of the accident and discuss the investigation into Greely's death.

A spokeswoman at the coroner's office said an autopsy and toxicology tests will be conducted.

Greely is the second person killed while working on the Uniontown-to-Brownsville link of the expressway.

Gilbert Eutsey, 58, of Dawson was killed Oct. 20, while he was working on an industrial wood chipper.
