Modular Guards = POS

Can't say how dissappointed we have been here with two sets of guards we bought. These things fell apart in no time. All the welds broke on the tack welds on the cross bars at the bottom of the guards. Every time I turned around I'd see something else falling off of them.

Quality should be a lot better, especially for the cost. and also the $300 and change sherrill charged for the shipping to me.

Haven't tried out the modulars, but we did something very similar to what TimberJack is suggesting. We made a set of guards using siding designed for livestock stalls. It's called polymax board and is very similar to alturnamats. We picked up the 1/4" thick sheeting and it has proven to be quite durable so far. Even with a n00b firing chips directly at it with the rayco, there's just some light scratching.

3 sheets 1/2 inch ply wood, 6 hinges and various hardware all from the home depot. DIY style guards.

Do you assemble (hinge pins) on-site or keep it all together?

I have a 6 hinge, 4 piece 4x8 plywood screen. Too heavy, IMO. Next time I'll try 1/4" instead of 1/2".
