Modifying my bridge...

Thinking of installing a rope bridge on my Kolibri. I'm sure it's not recommended, but I'd like to incorporate a swivel which I can't really do with the webbing configuration. The plan is to pass it through the front slot on the D rings using a stopper on the ends. Thoughts on this?

Also, rope experts, is velocity still used as bridge cordage? What would y'all recommend? Thanks,

Tom

It's perfect for me. Light but beefy enough, and the rigid leg straps are the only thing I can live with. I tried other ones with leg straps (butterfly, TM, etc), and I just can't do it. They wind up pinching my pelvic bone in a very uncomfortable way.

Hi Tom,

I would use two Petzl Ring Open instead of the D rings and would also install the Adjustable Rope Bridge. This is exactly what I have on my Sequoia. Maybe not cheap but versatile and proved.

Fixed length Rope Bridges are also available for the Rings if you prefer

I've got everything for that setup too, and I did think about it. Probably what I'll do long term, I just didn't want to change more than I had to for now. Thanks for the feedback!

Buy the harness from the manufacturer that has the options that you are seeking. Not that modifying a harness will guarantee failure, but the end result of failure is a bad prospect. Weaver thought they had there poop together when they copied the glide. The end result speaks for itself. I recommend using a something proven from the manufacturer. The reason why we pay top dollar for gear from a few manufacturers is they spend a good portion of that money on testing.

Joe, there are very few saddles with rigid leg straps. Ergo, Ergo lite and Kolibri are ones that I have tried. I like the ergo lite, but trust me, I've sampled a lot, and the Kolibri is the best fit for me. Sometimes the perfect fit isn't out there, and modification is what we do!

The Petzl Sequoiah swing might be another option. I definitely understand your thoughts and frustrations. I've been there too. I now have two beautiful little girls that rely on me to be there for them. Life insurance doesn't beat the piss out of a snot nosed punk that puts his hand on your little girl if you know what I mean.

Cannot do any type of seat. I've tried enough harnesses on, I know what I like, and I'm willing to make sacrifices on the bridge issue.

I'm going with the rock exotica open swivel. I'll report back!
