Been here much more than a while

I am looking for advice on a new saw. I have been running a stock 660 for a couple of years now, and since it was recently stolen I am looking into a replacement. I have contacted one individual who does modifications and the price is very reasonable for a saw with higher compression and faster cuts. Who on here runs a modified saw, who did the modifications for you, and have there been any drawbacks from having the work done?

As a side not, no I do not HAVE to have a modded saw but for the price difference I would like it, and it would be set up for being able to work with it. Not a performance saw, so overheating wouldn't be an issue.

The only drawback is the quality or work. A porter that went by JMS recently ported a lot of saws to sub par standard and it led to failures. I use woods ported saws all the time done by the same pro. The top two in my opinion are Mastermind Work Saws and Treemonkey. I bet there is a ported 661 for sale on OPE or AS. I’ll go take a look.

Ported Saws are A Fad.

The quote that I received was from Mastermind. I know he has a strong online presence on other forums, and didn't figure they would cut him any slack for sub par work. So I am confident in going with him. Shopping locally would be a plus as well, although I couldn't find anyone near me who does this work. Thanks for the extra vote of confidence in his work.

Look no further, he’ll set you up right and stand by his work. The only downside is he usually has a 6 month backlog of work.

He mentioned that he is always about 8 weeks behind. I think I could wait that long, as I have another smaller saw that can fill in on the big cutting for awhile.

That’s a lot better than it’s been! Hopefully the demand has tapered off for him a little. Busy is good, but there is too busy.

Check out Hotsaws101 on utube ... he’s a faller and builds a helleva saw !
