That style is what we run on full size skid steer loaders, and I can’t see why someone would want to run anything else.

We chip all day, and specialize in limited access removals of large trees. The demolition style grapple is the best option we’ve found for full size machines. The Branch Manager free swinging grapple is what we find to be best for mini loaders. I ran a mini all day today myself actually, with a brand new Branch Manager on it.

Disclosure, I sucked at feeding a chipper with a horizontal grapple compared to a rotating bypass grapple.

Not everyone is good at running a horizontal grapple in tight places, but it works well if you know how. Feeding with one is not hard, with a little practice. And the horizontal grapple is better for large logs, that’s one of the big reasons we use one. I don’t like power rotation on loaders, on an excavator or log loader for sure, but not on a skid loader.

So we have been fine tuning this grapple in house, and we use this for 95% of our work. We do not chip - we use a grapple truck. We have worked out the weak points, and added stiffeners and the cylinder covers, and have enough hours of use to be confident in the design. We sell these on a limited basis, but they are a premium option with a premium price.
