mimono vs lockjack

Both tools do the same job. The differences how much you spend and how well the job gets done. The M is much cheaper and works really well. The LJ is much more expensive and works smoother.

Both of these devices will wear from the rope rubbing on them. When the time comes to replace them, you have to figure in the cost. The next version of the LJ will have all of the wear parts replaceable. Hubert is designing and prototyping it now. The M is about 40% of the cost of the LJ. You have to figure out the best value.

Take a look at Vertical Pros site: http://www.verticalpro.net/

Sierra Moreno is selling them in the US.

Glad to see you on the forum, did you get my email?

After using both tools for a while I should add a few more differences.

The LJ can be put on or taken off the rope in the middle without threading.
The LJ can be used with a variety of ropes in case you don't climb with NE High Vee.
If parts wear on the LJ they can be replaced easily. this is especially true with the newest version. All wear parts are replaceable.
Both are quite compact and can be used on a short or long lanyard.
The cost of the LJ is high because of duty and shipping from Germany.
The action when climbing with the LJ is a little smoother than the M.

As before, each climber needs to decide what the best value is. Sometimes the less expensive choice is better but maybe by spending more money, the climber will gain effieciency.

Hey Tom
I really enjoyed seeing you in seattle, sorry to not spend more time w/ you chatting just not enough hours in the day...

I was checking out the M. and my first thought was what about sappy ropes? would not the M. lock up. You told me you had not experianced any sappy trees in your area. Has that changed?

Rob Dog has my M on loan now.

I use a false crotch all of the time so my rope stays clean. Even with the LJ, I still haven't had a problem with sap. I would guess that it would gum up either of the tools maybe the M a little more because of the longer tool/rope contact area.

Conferences can get pretty crazy, I know. In the last couple of years I've started to discipline myself to spend more time with friends. Are you going to be at TCI?
