Milwaukee top handle is coming

The Stihl battery pole saw is also pretty good (from my one time using it) but I don't like their climbing saw options compared to the Husky at least, but it's still respectable. So as always, battery ecosystem matters.

true, it'd be pretty crazy to not take advantage. I'd really like to try a battery pole saw. Thanks for the recommendations. It looks like it's pretty easy to sign up for the voucher.
How many vouchers are you allowed to use? You could "subsidiary farm" like the wind and solar industries. If, for example, that $700 deal on the Milwaukee was $350, it would be pretty tough for me not to buy it... So you get it at a subsidized price of $140 (20% of $700), pay maybe $50 to ship it and you just netted $160. Not saying you should do that...but plenty of people are milking "carbon subsidies" like that all over.

anybody try the Forge batteries yet? Milwaukee propaganda suggests they are on par with HD12.

1.33 pounds lighter and supposedly run cooler. Oh....and currently $70 less (on sale several places for $180).

Anybody with the Milwaukee...dumb question:
Does the chain spin freely with break off - like any other saw? I've convinced myself it used to, but it isn't now (it spins, just not easily). Asked a friend who has one and he said "no". So maybe I just never noticed before???

No, it's always been kind of a two handed operation to move it when sharpening. Definitely feels weird when you're used to free spinning on every other saw.

OK. I feel dumb. Saw is clean though!

Maybe I've only sharpened it a couple of times and swapped chains another? In tree saw so it stays out of the dirt and we do a lot of hand pruning...

Yep, rear handle saw is the same way. Just part of the design, different from all other saws I've seen.

So straight up, I think Milwaukee is doing a hell of a job bribing 'influencers' to use and review their tools online. I have a few myself: the rear handle is kind of junk, the pole saw good but heavy, and the blower is also lightweight junk. Of those three, only the pole saw deserves a place in a pros truck and jobsite. They all work... OK, but are not in the same league as actual pro saws from actual saw companies.

That said, here is more Milwaukee propaganda, haha. But interesting to see a battery powered 'big saw'

I bought the tool only last year as I had an XC8 battery. Know another guy who has an XC12 and gets a lot more run time out of it. Just when I was thinking of buying one, I start to see the Forge 6 and Forge 8 batteries that Milwaukee propaganda says is on par with XC12. Then I see they are talking about releasing a Forge 12. Early in the summer it was on Home Depot website, but not available, so I had them notify me when they become available. That came a couple months ago. I stopped at locally owned hardware store but they didn't have them in yet. Figured they were the same price everywhere so I'd wait and buy it there.

Then I see said hardware store was having their big annual tool sale today. Maybe they'll be 10% off...or maybe not, but I'll check.

They had buy Forge 12 ($250) get a Forge 8 free (normally $200). Oh, yeah, it was also 10% off. That is all. Thought you'd wanna know.

I have 3x of the Forge 6Ah, 8Ah, and 12Ah. The 6Ah seem to work the best in the top handled saw, which is counterintuitive because the 12Ah is supposed to be 50% more output than the standard 12Ah, which is what the 6Ah Forge is supposed to match.

The telescoping pole saw is great. I really wish it was a foot shorter when collapsed,

Is the run time on the Forge batteries comparable but just with higher power output or do they somehow also run longer with the same amp hours? I'm still just running regular M18 8ah and 12ah.

I love the pole saw. It's also designed to fit perfectly in 6" PVC pipe so I mounted a PVC conduit carrier on top of one of the toolboxes on my truck; solves the problem of it being too long for the boxes.

An amp hour is an amp hour. Forge overheats less and can provide higher discharge rates.

Being able to fit it in a 6” pipe across my truck would be ideal. My truck doesn’t have much practical room for inline storage.

This is what I used for my setup:

The total length with end caps is 8' 11" with a precise fit inside.
