Migraine Headaches

Chris I have had three migraines in my life and I went to a charopracter and he said my back was all outta whack and I didnt even know it. He adjusted me and I have not had one since. Oh by the way it was 3 in one week. I am not saying that it is your problem but it could be that simple.

You all do have my sympathy. I and most of those around me consider me to be a pretty scrappy dude and those headaches brought me 2 my knees. I cried and I couldnt remember that happening since I was a kid, hell, I couldnt even function.

Wow, it's funny that this thread should come back up as I hadn't had a real bad migraine in months, but last night I could feel one start to come on so I had to take some medicine.

I took one Maxalt tablet and went to bed. Luckily I caught it in time. If I hadn't, it may have turned into a full blown one and I know what that is like!

I do get regular adjustments for my back (or semi-regular)
and I have heard that they do help with people who suffer from headaches and migraines.

Tom, I haven't tried sumatriptan, but I'm glad that it helps you and others who suffer from migraines.

Just FYI,

Sumatriptan succinate=Imitrex (Tebegran in Mexico)

Sumatriptan succinate+Naproxen sodium=Treximet

Both work for me, but like you Chris, I have to catch it in time.

How many of you guys suffer from migraine headaches out there and what have you found that helps them?

I get incapacitating migraines, too. Like Steph said, Excedrin Migraine works wonders for me.

Rather then treating the symptoms, look for the cause. For me it was caffeine. When I cut soda out of my diet (I don't like coffee or tea), within a couple weeks the headaches cease. With out fail, if I have a coke, a day or two later my body goes through withdrawal and I will get a headache. Its worse the more caffeine I have in my system. Worth a shot if nothing else works for you. I always look to my diet to fix problems like these. garbage in garbage out. Feed your body well.

You guys getting migraines may want to look into getting an MRI. You may have some plumbing getting ready to pop and if caught in time surgery may save your life.

i had one migraine when i was like 12, and they did all these tests and found nothing. next migraine was at about 35, shortly after getting zapped from a high tension wire (they said 13kv). now i get one every three or four months. how many of you guys get the visual symptoms? the way i know i'm getting one is i start having blank spots in my vision - w/in about 5 minutes i'm about blind (like wearing safety glasses smeared w/vasoline, and staring at a strobe light). this lasts about half an hour and then the headache settles in - sometimes pretty mild, sometimes intense and two days long. wipes me out the next day too. no puking though, that must suck. never done prescription - 4 shots of espresso, 4 advil, lie down for an hour is usually how it goes. caffeine is the key ingredient for me - pretty sure that's what is in over the counter migraine meds. no idea what my triggers are. seems really random. had to have someone else drive the chiptruck once when i got one at work.

makin me nervous talking about migraines :). been a while, so i must be due...

Yeah, I went through all the tests too and it didn't show a thing wrong. I'm still trying to find my specific triggers, but it is a tricky thing to pin point.

Kathy, I don't get any visual problems, but the slightest sound can drive me crazy when I have a bad migraine. When I get one, I have bi-temple throbbing and the two large veins in my temples are like large knotted cords.

I had a migraine last week that came out of nowhere at around 10:00 pm and by midnight I was throwing up pretty bad. Wiped me out for two days as well.

These things suck!

One of the worst things about migraines is the lack of understanding by people who don't get them.

I had an MRI a few years back that showed nada, but one factor for me is stress. I'll go for a few months without one, and then have 3-4 in a month, usually during a stressful time. Alcohol is a trigger for me as well, but like I said, there is usually stress involved.

Re: Kathy, mine are generally hormone related and I get the visual symptoms too. It used to happen like yours every 3 to 4 months. There is a time they will slow down. I only have one occasionally now. The best thing that I could do was as soon as I realized it was coming was to take pain meds as soon as possible. Hope it helps.
