Mighty Bandit

Hey everybody! I was just wondering if any of you guys are familiar with a Mighty Bandit 6in chipper? I just bought one for my little operation and can't seem to really find much on the interwebs about them. Has a awesome little Deutz powering it and is in pretty much flawless condition. A little old lady bought it brand new some years back to literally use it less than a handful of times to chip up a few small trees she needed to on a Christmas tree farm. And you can tell that's no lie. I got it home and started going through it best I could, (I'm not a mechanic)... at all, haha. But anyway, went through it with my limited knowledge, and from what I can tell everything that I've looked at is in absolutely excellent shape. Almost like it came off the showroom floor. Minus a few minor paint issues here and there. o_O Seriously one of those cases where someone had a liiiiittle bit more :envidioso than sense haha. Worked great in my favor though. :D (Sorry to be so long winded about this but it's my first chipper purchase, it's awesome, and I'm stoked!) Anyway, just figured I'd see if any of you guys on here have any experience with, have any advice about, or have even heard of these little fellows. Thanks and be well everyone! :)

Is Mighty the model? I've noticed those on ebay at times. I have a 2002 65AW with a 37 horse Wisconsin. They can get a lot of work done on prunning jobs etc. especially.

Put a swiveling tire on the tongue jack and you can push them back in places to the brush.

Sharp knives and adjusted well is key.

Welcome to Tree Buzz by the way.

I have a 2004 bandit 65 (Wisconsin) probably just like yours. Do you have any idea where to find the swiveling tire for a square mount jack? Been looking for one...

AW4130: I would try finding any model number, serial number, spec number on chipper or motor and download and print owners manuals from there.

The 65 was the second generation Mighty Bandit and has the disc set at 90degrees to the feed throat. I have never operated one of those but I am told they do a decent job on the small stuff. I had the first generation of the Mighty Bandit which had the disc set at an angle like the larger Bandit models. It was a POS. Would chip OK with no leaves on, but summer leaves would clog the throat behind the feed wheel in a minute. After about 2 years of that, I moved up to a Vermeer 935 which was a sweet machine. Big enough to handle take downs and an awesome pruning chipper. I had been watching several 65's on Craig's List in your area last year and would have liked to have jumped on one of them. Good luck with your machine and work safe.

Long time ago we had the 65. Neat little machine. Most important thing to remember is keep the knives very sharp at all times for the machine is not higher HP. Most limbs/larger forks will need to be reduced before chipping but is still a decent small chipper.

MikePowers, I have never seen a swivel wheel set up for a square tube. Time to employ/trade with a welder. (Oops, Google is our friend - Northern Tool under Jack Castors/Feet. I would still have one welded up with a air tire.)

Thanks for the feedback and welcome guys! I'm very excited to get to putting this lil chipper to work. I think it should be perfect for what I want to be doing and need it for. I do ALOT of firewood so I mostly just need it to deal with small brush. Most everything from removals I do I take and split everything six inches or bigger anyway so I think it should be just right. :)

Mine was like the red one in NY with a 23 hp Kohler and it just wasn't enough engine. Yours might turn out to be ok with the bigger engine. Tale will be told when you have real leafy brush to chip. Mine always clogged the throat between the back of the feed wheel and the disc. Really soured me on Bandit products.
