Today I removed an 80' eab killed 3 year dead 3' dia ash that had a gaping crack in the codom at 20' that came down about 6'. 2 other tree companies refused to climb it and the second one recommended me (a senior citizen!...no pride). It was all bent over the roof and all needed rigging (stressing the crack). Limbs had broken and fallen off of it. Bark had fallen off of it. Worried about for a week and all last night.

But today it is done and music sounds better, food tastes better and the landscape looks prettier than it did yesterday. I am sure many of you know what I mean.

Absolutely... getting out of an ash tree, I'm always glad to be back on the ground... on the green side of it...
But, completing a job the younger guys turned down? Classic.

Yup, I know the feeling!! Not as many years as you, but I have climbed a few that sketchy. That is the down fall of being the estimator and the climber. You get to see the tree and then think about it for weeks before you do it. When I worked for someone else you never knew what you were doing that day until you showed up to the job. That can kinda suck, but can be good because your not thinking about the tree for weeks.
I had a competitor refer me to a tree that he could not do just this week. I have not gone and look at it yet. But it's supposably a stone dead pine tree with no access for equipment and he says it's unsafe to climb. We shall see. I will post some picture!!

The one thing that bothers me about doing estimates and the climbing is that I have far too much time to think about the future jobs. Sometimes it can be a good thing, but I will tend to replay the plan in my mind to an unnecessary extent. Self inflicted pain I guess...I'll learn.

Of coarse everything changes one I get to the top! Sometimes getting handed a work order with an address is cool : ) Happy Thanksgiving Vet...
