That sure is clever.

As long as there's a need for the small cord as a haul back I'd be inclined to tie a stopper knot, attach the cord and get rid of the biner.

But figuring out a practical safe use for it in this biz's a real brain teaser in itself!

Maybe use a small limb instead of the top anchor and secure gear that you don't need after ascent and lower them remotely from the ground? Other ways to do it but it's a pretty neat trick! That's one of those technical moves that creates stories whether it works or not.
