I,ve been dealing with my worn out 1yr old Sherrill deluxe cube. So I got online and found these:
Pop Up Magic Storage Cube , and Magic Storage Cubes
Now I realize they need modding and might not hold up to our profession, but I'm gonna try. Both designs have rods in the top and sides but use a fabric covered cardboard inset verses bottom rods. I bought the 3 pack and the "brilliant" cotton canvas cube, and a few other things to make it happen.
<ul type="square">[*]3 Pack and Color Cube - $40 ish
[*]Poplar Dowel rods - 8 at 3ft $1.50
[*]Small plastic buckle clips - 4 totaling $6
[*]1/2 inch and 1 inch nylon straps - $1.50
[*]Pockets cut from the square bases - nada
[*]Sewing shop price on all 4 - will see
[/list]
The Poplar rods are fairly flexible and still tough. The clips will be much better than the well worn out velcro on my deluxe cube. I've made slits on bottom seams in the cubes to push the rods in and sew shut. Color cube has 4 seams on bottom the 3 pack design has 2 but can be shoved inside, for a fold and sew from side to bottom. Anyway you get the picture, pockets, nylon straps, and buckles.
Monday all 4 will go to my local sewing shop. To avoid pitfalls of deluxe cube, reinforce fabric rod ends and nylon strap loop attachment point. I carry an extra throw-bag on the loop strap, as it serves 2 purposes, an extra weight and an anchor upwind on those "you guessed it, windy days".
Sewing shop put pockets in my canvas water bags from an army surplus store and didn't really cost that much.
Wish me luck
