I'm going to be getting insured to be a contract climber and going part time at my current job. If anyone would like to speak about taking me on as a contract climber on occasion, or even as groundsman help over the winter (its a shame I'm a climber because i'm a hell of a ground man), send me a PM and I can send you a mini resume with me credentials.
Thanks guys,
Andre

Big, bold step! Congratulations, and I hope it all works out well for you!

Maybe you could call every tree service in your local area to get your phone number out there as someone to call in a pinch when one of their regular guys cannot make it on a particular day. They would have to pay you a more premium wage to compensate you for being available on short notice. Idea being that it might cost them more not to have you there. Just a thought.

I've sent like 25 emails in the last 2 days Tim hahaha. Good idea though. One person i emailed already mentioned he coulda used me this summer when his top climber broke his collar bone ripping quads after work

@ CutHighnLetFly; Nice! It sounds like you're really going after it. Not everyone is real big on reading e-mail; keeping up with it all of the time, though. Maybe business owners are more likely to. I guess I was just thinking you could approach it from different angles, different vectors of attack, if that makes any sense. Some "old school" owners might respond better to a phone call.

Yeah I gotta sack up and make some phone call and I guess get on Facebook. There are a gpod amount of people with no website or email, just Facebook or Yelp kinda stuff with their phone numbers. but I am going after it Tim, I'm "going hard in the paint"

I have references for anyone who would like them. There are several people locally I have worked with a bunch.

Good for you man! Keep in mind that this is a really tough time of year to sell yourself so dont get discouraged if you feel like the works not pouring in. Around the holidays our calls and emails for work slow way down and we sell very little work. Jan gets a little better and by March your on your way. Landscapers are always looking for contract climbers so I would door knock the hell out of them!

Landscapers are key, license and insure yourself as full service tree service though. Around here that is quick way to get hemmed up un-needly. I do a good many that way drop everything in a pile and roll out. Also have a quality ground guy in your pocket for those situations. Many landscapers are fools when it comes to rope and knots. They will on the other hand be willing to hire you both to put the tree on the ground. This being up one minor point too, ensure the landscaper company hires both of you independently or you are responsible for your ground guy's Workman's comp. ok one last one make sure you have a bullet proof contract that you use EVERY time. I have an example if you need one.
