Los Angeles area fatality

A 20-year worker fell from a palm and died yesterday, Monday, 1 Dec.

I hesitate linking to the NY Post since it's a sensationalistic gossip rag, but of 5-6 media sources I checked it's the only one that includes several details (which seem likely to be correct) -- that this was an occupational accident (not the property owner), that he was on rope, and -- worst of all, after the fatality itself -- that two of his brothers were on site :-(

Really rough time for the family...

Terrible story.
Back in the day I worked in London nearly every day, those cast iron Victorian fences with spiked tops were ubiquitous.
They always gave me the heebees. You didn’t even have to take a fall, even a slip ans a drop of a few feet could end nastily.

Totally a horrible way to go. It doesn’t take much on these fences. We have one that takes out at least two deer per year, half get ran through the other half have their necks get hung up between the pickets.
Whenever I can I remove all rebar and tee posts below the tree, even though the odds a minuscule. One first has to fall out of the tree, then land in the wrong spot, but why the hell not.
We aren’t blocking hordes of invading armies. It’s just a boundary marker or plant stake

I only ever did one dead ash above a pointy iron fence and it weighed on my mind the whole time. Article said it was a family tree business. no words are enough to say.. sad
