Looking for Greg Good

Aloha all,

I did a little bit of damage to my GRCS yesterday. While winching out some hung up trees the device shifted suddenly and the screws that hold on the rectangular rubber mounting pad sheared off (see attachment). This is no fault of the device, which I think is designed extremely well. Rather, it is a warning not to mount it on slippery, skinny, sharply tapering palm trees. That's what happens when you're too lazy to go down the hill to get a longer rope.

Anyways, it should be any easy fix but I'd like to get in touch with Greg Good to get the specs on the screws. Does anyone have his email?

Leon,

Everything OK?

You didn't do any damage to anything?

I would like to hear more details of what happened.
"That's what happens when you're too lazy to go down the hill to get a longer rope."
Thanks, for being honest about that.

Good teaching tool.

Thanks, Nick.

SirTreeRat, if I'd gotten a longer rope I could have mounted the device on a more suitable tree trunk. Instead I was lazy and mounted it on skinny palm tree that did not provide good traction for the rubber feet on the device. The device slipped along the trunk suddenly while I was winching and I guess the rectangular pad was the only part that was grabbing and the screws that hold it on couldn't take the load. It will be really easy to fix, I'd just like to replace the screws with the same kind that Greg puts in there to start with.

You can't go wrong using Grade Eight screws.

I usually use grade 5 stainless on the GRCS. the reason I dont use 8s are when or if they sheer off and get stuck in there, it is very hard to drill & tap them out.

I've replaced the rubbers on the back of my GRCS but have not sheared any bolts. I'm with Tom on the grade eight bolts. They are about 30% stronger than grade five.
