Looking for an elevator

Just buy new. Anything decent used is going to be well north of $100k We just got a price from UOS forestry for a brand new truck (with some upgrades from the standard package) for under $160k.

He'd love to but its just not in the budget. Going to have to go used.

Why is it not in his budget? Because he can not get financing? I only ask because @Jasonk is correct....if he can at all possibly swing the cost of a new one he should. If you buy used....the money you save will quickly be eaten up in down time and repair costs. I tell you...it gets frustrating.

He's not interested in new. Our cost of living is very low here so our wages and earnings reflect that. No one runs new bucket trucks around here, and for good reason. It's not affordable in our market. For a reference, a new elevator is as much or more than most houses cost here. I wouldn't think the upkeep on an elevator vs a regular bucket would be that much different. Obviously the circuit for elevator controls is an addition possibility. I'd figure the bushings would wear out over time in the elevator unit as well.

Your missing the point here. The demand in the market keeps the prices of the used trucks way up. Nearly 3/4 or better of the price of new. If you find an elevator for what seems to be a great price its probably going to be nothing but problems. Keep in mind that these trucks require annual inspections and if you think that not much can go wrong, think again. Good luck!

Yep. There is a current recall for cracking booms on 2001-2003 Terex XT55 and XT60 booms. We have a cracked one but Terex says they don't have to fix it because the metal in the boom is correct. I say if it was correct, why is it cracking in the exact spots the recall calls for to be inspected for cracks. There is a current NHTSA investigation on the issue.

There's actually two different recalls and cracking issues on these booms. One gets gussets where the lower boom hooks up to the turret. The other cracking issue they are supposed to replace the boom.
