Looking at buying a new saddle

Hey guys I'm new to the forum so il introduce myself my name is john and I have been doing tree work for 5 years and I live in Oregon and I'm looking into buying a new saddle I have been using a weaver with two floating D rings I like the saddle a lot but Its pretty heavy compared to this new ones out. My question is what are some good comfortable saddles for a bigger guy (260lbs) any feed back is greatly appreciated ahead of time

Ergovation bye Buckingham great back an hip support holds heavy gear an big saws well mines 4 yrs old an still going strong an all in one piece ive been climbing for 10 yrs used all kinds of saddles over the years an my next saddle will be an ergo hands down

Can anyone compare the Ergovation to the Treemotion? Why choose the one over the other? I have tried neither, so I would be interested in hearing other's thoughts and preferences etc.

john kays ive sat in both, which isnt worth much input. but one very noticeable difference is that the treemotion is much slimmer and lighter. like a lot slimmer.
i love my ergovation and its a great saddle, but i will probably be trying the NT onyx.
The Ergo's fatness makes my butt look big

Welcome John. Good to see another fuller figured climber aboard. From what I've seen, although the TM is an awesome saddle, it only comes in one size and you might not be able to get it dialed in quite right. That is sad because I think it is a great saddle designed by people that put a lot of thought into their designs. The Ergo or Flex will probably be the best option. The thing I dislike the most about just about all saddles is the placement of the side "d's" on the XL saddles. They are not far enough forward. Back in the mid '80's I bought a Blair saddle from Sierra Moreno that didn't quite fit right. I called and spoke with Don Blair about it and he had me to meaqsure and tag where I wanted things to be and he had one made to my dimensions. It was a great saddle, but it did weigh a ton.

My apologies, I kind of high jacked this thread. I have just been seeing a lot of people recommending the ergo, but I have always been set on the TM. I am 180lb with a 34 waist, and was curious what the ergovation had to offer.

But please don't mind me...continue responding to the original question.

I have had both saddles, the ergo and treemotion and currently rock the TM every day. Depending on your waist size I personally like the TM over the ergo due to the lower D attachment and the way it forms on my body. I found that even with all of the padding on the ergo that after awhile I had a good bit of discomfort in the hip region while on gaffs. With the lower D rings on the TM it disperses the weight evenly between my legs and waist. The gear attachment configurations are almost limitless and I find that the saddle moves in conjunction with my climbing system very nicely.

I've never sat in a TM and only got the ergo because a coworker had it and I was able to test it out. Before the ergo I had a liger which was also super comfortable and had it not been a pretty old used saddle before I modded it I wouldn't have upgraded. The main thing I like about the ergo is the elastic belt that goes on before the belt snap. The Ergo holds a weight from gear and saws really well too.

At 5' 8" and 235 pounds I found the size-2 Petzl Sequoia good to work with. Enough so that when I lost all that weight I got the next size down and am still flying on it. Really haven't found a need to give more than a casual glance at the other saddles.

I've been using a Sequoia for as long as they have been around. Indeed tried one on at a TCIA Expo the fall they introduced it and picked one up at my local shop when they were finally available.

tm is a trimming saddle ive got both ergo an tm ergo will last way longer and take more abuse an ergo is easyer too get on but they both have there good points an bad points but everyday saddle erego better bang for your money

I've been using the Stein Vega for about a year. It's my favorite saddle to date. Not a lot of features or adjustability, but really solid and rugged. Stays put really well. Lots of sizes available.

I liked my tm but the buckles slip like crazy and starts sliding off my hips after an hour or so in the tree. I have the 'lite' version and it's a pain to get on. I gave it away.

My previous favorite was the Buckingham Glide Lite. Wore that one out. Other saddles I've used extensively are Buckingham Ergo and Deluxe, Skylotec Kolibri, and Tree Austria 3.1. Kolibri is great for very vertical trees and crane work. The Vega works great for everything.

I'm 6' 170 lb.

My fav was my kolibri. I wore out the webbing after about 6 years and their customer service is not there so I couldn't repair the webbing. The ergo is good but I've had to replace the guts on it because the aluminum was all pitted from sweat. That took about 2 years though. It is a good all around saddle.w

Does the new treemotion allow for 260 lbs? I ask because the old one was only recommended for fully equipped climbers of <200 lbs......'Course I gained weight (220 oit of the shower) and I'm still rocking mine, so please don't think that I am a role model.
