Log Truck

Yeah, we bought it as a log truck for pulling wood from the street, but crane stuff sometimes too. Arbor X came up and checked it out before he made his purchase. I think that I gave him the idea of the Kinshoffer grapel then.

It's a 27 ton/meter with 68' vertical reach (4000#) and 56' horizontal (2000#). It's a really good truck.

Here's a shot.

Jim,

Why do you NOT want a z boom? Just curious. It's not capacity since the 265zt picks 6800 @ 23 feet and 4400 @ 31.

I just saw this post.....wasn't ignoring you!

we have too many operators who jump on the truck. trying to train everyone to run a Z lift would take lots of time. I see the advantages of them, and would love to get a chance to play with one someday.

For you guys that run those tandem axle or bigger loader trucks, do you ever take those over lawn? If so, how bad do they beat up the lawn when turning if youre not using mats or boards?

I never take ours on a lawn without mats. That's just asking for trouble in Jersey!

Jim,

Not ignoring me, right....

I don't think the Z loader is too hard to run. I haven't run a prentice yet, but I was told that they are similar.

The only advantages are easy dumping ability without having to move a boom, and that the way it stows keeps wear and tear down with less bouncing and movement when driving.

I see the advantages. one ofour buddies has a loglift 105z, rearmount. if we got one I think it would just be a straight body 60-80,000gvw. ill have to junp on his aand figure it out. lots of levers and pedals!

when your up next we'll get you on a prentice.

I know you're joking Jim, but I am still gonna punch you in the ovaries when I see you.

Not beneath me, just doesn't make sense on most jobs. I usually need to focus on the next tree or wrapping up the jobsite. You dig?

For the sake of conversation... Wouldn't a Z-boom loader be the best choice for tree work? Simply because dumping the logs would be faster.

ha ha ha, Mark got a little mouthy! yeah!

A prentice loader will out-do a knuckle boom like mine. A prentice is the way to go if you are going to be loading a lot of logs.

K-booms are slower and you have to be more careful with.

this coming from a k-boom owner with a grapple.

No need to have a dumping function with a prentice loader, loader is so fast you can off load with the loader itself.

Yes, Mark was nice enough to show me his set up and tell me his opinion.

I will do the same for others.

No dumping? Alright, but what is your thoughts behind that? I love learning how people make decisions on equipment purchases. It always helps me when I do it.

No yard around our area wil let us dump logs, then stack logs for us, neither will the mills. All must be offloaded and stacked by the operator. Same goes for our personal yards.
Plus you lose GVW with the dump setup.
