SJ Treeguy is correct about everything he said. I was at the recent CTE dinner where this was talked about. Now that the bill is signed, this coming year the board of tree experts will be busy figuring out the requirements of a Licensed Tree Care Operator. I think as time proggress it will help raise the level of professionalism in the state and the trees will like it too.

Really????? There are other states that have these same type of programs in place and the same shoddy work goes on. One good thing maybe, is this will lead to higher prices to cover the cost put out for papper. Maybe lead to higher pay rates???? The same unethical or immoral business practices will go on. They will just be able to charge more for it now.

I remember this. False accusations and character defimation.

What exactly was so funny about this again Cam?

As for the exam. Can I even take it? I thought that a manditory 10 years of experience was called for even to be considered for the exam.

I'm glad to see this happen as long as there is consequences for those who do not abide, otherwise it's just another way for the state to snake money from us all

there are some companys out there that honestly don't know enough about the work and don't know that what they are doing is wrong (I.E me before I found out about the buzz). A bill like this could help guide the misguided into doing professional work and to educate themselves leaving NJ with healthier, more beautiful trees.

I was simply having a good laugh with ED for recaliing that incident and the controversy it caused. What's the harm in that?

I do believe it is three years experience in the field to become a CTE. I could be wrong and I'm sure all the requirments will change now that it is LCTO not CTE. Still waiting for them to iron it all out. I would have thought they would have had that all figured out before they may it law?

No worries cam.

Thanks for the info on the cte. If I remember correctly from when you and I first talked, it's quite a difficult test and I'm damn sure I'm not there yet. I better get steppin cause if I have to wait for ry to pass I'll be out of a job quick. With the ISA test date fast approaching, it looks like I'll have my hands full with reading.

I allmost wonder if it is even worth taking the isa test. I'm sure its good for the experience but isn't gonna mean any thing if you don't have a LCTO which sucks. I think they should allow ISA certs to just pay for the license fee. U still have to continue with credits each following year for both, so what is the difference.

Good point cam. I'm honestly way too entrenched in the study guide right now to not take the test. It will be a good experience, one that I can only imagine will help me with not only my education but with future tests as well.

There will most likly be some knid of grandfather clause put into effect for this. They will not likly tell a company that has x amount of time in, he is out of biz till he passes the test.

Whats funny about this is the simple fact your boss is a hack money grubber willing to do what ever it takes to make the coin. He could of passed, talked they to remove it, crown reduced it propper,or just walked away and say sorry we wont do that type of work. Nah,!!!! just cut it level with the gutter.

I'd like to see all landscrapers have to take the test too. How many times do I have to unbury my customers trees from those mulch happy turds? Or pull out a row of arboviete to find burlap and twine wrapped 4 inches up their trunks. Not to mention the horrendous pruning cuts.

Ed. Usually, this is when I jump in and agree with you. I've never been affraid to throw the man under the bus when called for. When the work sold was crap, I took a stand, got sent home no pay. But apparently, me doing that stuck. The work has changed and pretty dramatically.

The days of removing huge leads for clearance have been replaced with smaller secondary removals for quicker growth over the wound. Tree toppings have been shifted to thinning and proper drop crotch (even for Bradford pears and I could give a damn about those trees/weeds!). He has even been sending the crew to training seminars, not just tcia, but actual classes about proper pruining.

I'm impressed to be honest with you. the man has made a change and for the better. I can only hope it's for good.

This will not stop companies from their usual practice if the leadership doesn't buy into it. They will do what is necessary to get the CTEs they need to operate but it will be business as usual. Money talks.....

Well Ed, it seems that I've spoken too soon, I was just shown my third job in a row that a lead entirely too large to be considered proper pruining is being removed.

The new excuse is "they plan on getting the tree removed in the future, but this is all they can afford right now"

my apologies Edward.

I've been there before, when times are tight and the dollar signs are staring you in the face, it's can be tempting to be a hacker for a day. Where do you draw the line when your desperate?
