LeafSnap...tree ID app for phone!

Still have my old school phone. Might upgrade soon. Will probably go with the iPhone on verizon. Then I can download all these cool apps.

It asked if the sample was against a white background. That might make a difference

I did that for the Elm, and it came back as Bitternut. Who knows, maybe they are still building the database.

Think it will really be that long? Seems most people are there already!!

It worked great for me. It ID'd the American elm in my back yard and it brought it up first on the list. Also picked out pin oak and black cherry on the first shot. Only tree It had trouble with was my tea crab apple. I ended up having to take a pic of the leaf upside down because of the curl, showed up halfway down the list. Cool app!

Dirr's Tree and Shrub finder was put out by timberpress this year. It's awesome from what I hear (one of about 2 times I've been dismayed to run android)

I downloaded this to my ipad last night. Worth ever penny, I was glued to it for a couple hours.

really? I see it as a phone-only app. I just got the iPad2--is this maybe iPad1 only app?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have the ipad2, I had no problem downloading the app.

yes, now I see it can work on ipad, even though it still isn't listed as ipad app. now I wonder if I want it $15 worth . . . I generally pass on universal id in favor of locally specific.
