Large Elm Dismantle on the Bulldog bone.

Treevet just because you've made dumb mistakes doesn't mean everyone else is going to. From the sounds of it you've made more than these guys and from watching some of your videos I can definitely tell these guys are most experienced. Your an old man that survived the learning curve get off you high horse you sound narcissistic and douchey. Just say good job and quit being negative

I think this is getting a bit out of hand.

I hear from many arborist on other forums that the treebuzz has a reputation for crap like this.

I will stick to the other places from now on.

Thanks for confirming the rep.

I posted the video and started the thread for people to see work from Scandinavia.

Maybe I shouldn't have in the first place.

Thank you and good night.

I think the luck was referred to as dumb my friend, not you personally. And had you mentioned that you CONSIDERED the ramifications of a splitting occurrence then my hole that devours pie would have remained hinged. Anyhoo ...best of luck to ya.

That's not fair and mis-placed. Biggun (aka Richard) and Aaron are very experienced and I'm sure they would have considered the union and possible decay cavity etc.
I've felled many trees like this to see them split upon impact with the ground. The split occurs purely due to the impact and if space is and issue, they get tied together prior to felling.
Treevet, I think you could have made a more intelligent post by asking if they had considered the risks, rather than accusing them of not considering risks. I'm sure Biggun would have then answered your questions with due respect and the flow of information would continue. Instead, it eroded into an argument.

(BTW, I've never met Biggun so I have no agenda but I know of his reputation as person and a professional.)

No we didn't tie the stems together. Although they split on impact there was about 2 - 3 feet of trunk below the union. I think the only reason they split was due to the union which was weakened by the Gob I put in there. As there was a fair bit of weight up there I made the gob cut pretty deep to help shift the CoG to help bring it over.

I disagree with the above poster and this (quoted) post. I did suggest he tie the two together and this was the (above) response . No response saying they "considered" it. "I think the only reason they split was due to impact....". Then later I was told "I" made a mistake and was being hypocritical and then the wine a thon by "biggun"........what is the difference?

The difference is, and there is plain and clear evidence on the video, your mistake not tying the 2 stems together and your indignance at my suggestion (if you agreed then I would not have pursued it) was because your stem had INCLUDED bark all the way to the cut. The ash crane pick I made had a good 5 foot section without ANY included bark although admittedly white ash is very prone to splitting in crotches. Your decision to drop this stem WITHOUT EVEN CONSIDERING tying the two together as indicated in your response above is....

AMATEUR at best. Maybe there is a forum for amateurs out there somewhere for him. Again...good luck to ya.

ps...just because you are foreign posters does not make you somehow immune to contrary opinions on an open forum ...now does it? We are all big boys here. Moreso...if the "only reason they split apart "on impact" was because of the gob they took out"...all the more reason to tie them together ...since they were still upright when that was done ....and wood was laid down to protect property from the intended hit. Concern for damage was apparent.

Ok mate, you obviously have a bee in your bonnet, I hope it doesn't sting you one day.

Wine a thon? I have said I have taken your comments on board, leave it at that.

You are definitely living up to your reputation though mate.

Good luck to you also. CYA.

Excellent video! Good rigging as well... Some of those balanced limbs kick back a little too much for my liking, but it looks like you guys have it pretty well figured out. Were you using just a portawrap? If you don't already have one, you should get a GRCS, it's a game changer for rigging.

I'll translate:
"Pull your pink socks up Sally!
This is where men talk about trees!
Carry on."
