Large chainsaw reccomendations

I am looking to purchase a saw that will be capable of running a 32"+ bar and am wondering if any of you out there have some favorites. I have a 28" husky 365 special, but I think I am leaning towards a sthil on this go around. Any advice on what saw I should consider?

The MS 460 will pull that bar no problem. I would recommend puting on the Stihl factory dual port front muffler cover. If you want more power and a saw that will make that length bar feel like a 20" I would go with a MS660. This saw also has a dual ort front cover available and I would highly recomend it. The 660 is a heavier saw, but the power difference is nigh and day. Most will argue the 066/660 is one of the best saws ever made!

Where are you located?

Yeah, but it wont take any bigger!

I own stihl 660 and husky 385xp

Stihl 660 is an excellent saw, great with 36inch bar, but then so is the husky 385xp, which is a nicer saw to use in my opinion? The husky just feels better.

Borrow a Husky 395xp, too big like the 088 - hellish saws to use, have you ever used a 088 with a 4 ft bar?

The 385 is no comaprison power wise to a 660! the 395 and 660 is a very close race. The 395 and 880 cant be put into the same clas either! I prefer the 660 over the 395, 3120, and 880. The 660 will pull a 42" bar quite comfortably with the dual port front and is lighter than the other saws listed.

The 385 is a nice saw but the original poster said he is leaning towards a Stihl.

I am a 145-150 pounder (depends if I put on some winter weight).

I handle the 088 with a 41" bar just fine (on the ground). It motors through the big wood!

Do I use it all the time? Of course not. I use the "right tool for the job." Can't go wrong with the MS880 or the 088!-----IMO.

Yes bostonbull is right, my mistake . I got the 385 mixed up wuth the 395!
The 660 is probably the saw you are looking for, but you should try the 385xp husky, it really is a great allround ground saw, the 660 is just a bit on the weighty side if your using it all day.

If you can afford it, the stihl 088 and the husky 3120 are great saws but beware only buy one of them if you regularly do big wood.

Go with the Stihl 660 with a 36" bar and you will be very happy. Learn how to adjust the carb and get the dual port muffler front.

I just wanted to thank all of you for the great feedback. I think it sounds like I should be going with the 660. I am new to this site, and I have to say: This is great! There is such a wealth of knowledge going on around in here and the honest feeback from you folks is very welcomed. I will be here for a long time! Thanks again from the Bay Area.

Where do I locate the dual port muffler? I checked the stihl site but they made no mention to it. Enjoy the week
