Lanyards

BJ,
I`m a cable repair tech, all I do is tree removals off the cables along the northern trans Canada highway.
I won`t use a chainsaw in a tree without a steel core flipline.
Just bush and bears!

I don't really get it. Do you use a three over two distal for a double lanyard? I never thought the distal could be used as a bi-directional hitch...

I used it today on my rope lanyard in a tree and it worked just great.
Locked up tight and released with ease.
Nice and compact at a little over 6 inches in length.
I`m sold on this one!

Sometimes when I want a second lanyard instead of terminating my climbing line with a connecting link to the spliced eye connected to my saddle, I will tie on a second split tail with a prussic. This then terminates to my saddle. Behind the prussic is the splice and another connecting link. Hence, I have created a second lanyard or a instant recrotch. Whatever you want to call it.

For what its worth, I use an 11mm 3 metre lanyard out of Edelrid power static dry (low stretch kernmantle). I have tied on an ISC Ghecko (smaller brother to the mongoose)with a half double fishermans. The shape of the krab stops the knot sliding round and loading the minor axis. The adjuster is an 8mm double braid tied into a Helical friction hitch (one direction loading only). This is advanced with a key chain swivel link and is also tied onto a Ghecko.

I wouldn't recommend tying the friction hitch directly to the 'D' of the harness - it doesn't allow the lanyard to be moved to the centre rings, which can be really beneficial, as someone already stated.

The advantages are low weight, can be released under load, advanced one handed and the helical can be slacked off to adjust for pine pitch/sawdust build up.
