Lanyard Storage Suggestions

I have been using a ditty bag for the past few weeks to store the tail of my 20' lanyard, previously I daisy chained the tail. I always felt like the daisy chain would snag and undo itself and I was constantly 're-chaining' it. Any simply solutions/pics/ideas for more compact, accessible storage?? The current bag I have works well, but is a little bulky for my taste and rope can pay out too easily when working the tree.
Thanks in advance!!

I have been using this for a year now. I like better than bags. Just push it in on and off and if I need to get the tail of my rope out of the drop zone there is plenty of room for it. No stuffin. When you hit the ground you simply hand over hand some loops enough to keep it out of the mud and push the loops onto the clip. Pretty easy

The ropes down to 10mm seem to stay put. fits upto 13 mm

I daisy chain my rope lanyard. I use an accessory biner to hook the chain to the back of my saddle. The trick is hooking the daisy chain so that the biner prevents the chain from unraveling. I do have to unclip it when I need more length. Stein's rope bag made for crane work has a velcro tab sewn into the inside of it that you fold over the rope before the working end leaves the bag. It's supposed to keep the rope from paying out too easily. I think the same might work for a small rope lanyard ditty bag (attached to the saddle) like yours. Hmmm, actually I might have to try that.

I use a ditty bag for my lanyard- around 20 ft. At first had problems with all the rope coming out until I tied a prussic onto the rope and attached it to a loop right above my ditty bag. If you need more rope pull some through the prussic. Works pretty good for me.

I will do my best for tomorrow.
Friday and all that.

The only thing that is bothersome is I like to clip my 200 to the same area on my harness and it will get in the way on occasion.
But the good news is the clip/hook that is linked on the other thread about chainsaw lanyards is a solid fix.

The two together will be a sweet.

I use an old chalk bag from my stash of retired rock climbing gear. I stuff the desired amount of rope into the bag and tie a slipknot. Then, just close the drawstring on the bag with the knot inside. This keeps the tail from catching on branches and getting pulled out of the bag. Depending on size of rope and bag you can fit quite a bit of rope in there. I used to daisychain my lanyand but found this much easier to manage.

I daisy chain it and "lock" the loop through my figure8 and hang it on a small caritool. It gives it something to do and its close and ready for when you need it for a different application.

Nice ideas everyone, thanks! I am going to try the prussic by the ditty bag, to keep rope from falling out of the bag. I also like Nick's idea of the half hitch on the daisy chain, I never thought of that for some reason

I keep thinking of the 'spiderjackery ' retractable lanyard, a modified chainsaw starter housing could be a cool way to go, since the retractable mechanism is already built in...

Try a simple mod of retractable clothesline cable system. Just a thought...
My current lanyard is about 13' long. I have a total of 4 carabiners on mine...a carabiner on both ends, one at the prusik/pulley, and one on an HRC prusik (3 wrap, 6 coil) between the back end and the prusik/pulley. I clip the last in line to the caritool first, followed by the HRC. The prusik/pulley is next in line, but on the side D. I clip the front end I to the caritool last. It can be rolled out of the caritool quickly, and if I need more length, I just slide it through the next prusik. I'm pretty tall, so the few loops hanging down don't seem to get in my way, but if I was using a much longer lanyard, I would daisy chain it. I've found that I can set mine up SRT and reach multiple points by using all 13' of the lanyard, which seems to save a bit of fuss. Just my opinion...

Sorry for the delay.
Friday we went to see the Old timers all star game. The krusher, Mcsorley, Viave and Huthchison(globetrotters meets referee meets high penalty minutes) Bust a gut that night.I used to do the daisy chain but prefer this, it is like an many extra hands, tail of the lanyard, lifeline tail rigging ropes etc.

Honestly don't find it catching or getting in the way.
it will hold the 10 mm with out slipping pushed into only two grips and when you want the tail back it pulls out with ease.
This improvement over bags and daisy chains is my preference give it a try its like 8bucks and if it isn't for your lanyard their will be another place to use it.

BTW what do you think of my lanyard end smooth over?

If I look a bit small for the harness, its my mini me, simon my son helping me out.

BTW he thinks harness and gear is lame. He says you only need a rope and saw.

Just cut it! Long lanyards are a PITA.

Agreed. I messed with a long lanyard for a bit, but prefer a pretty short length now. 8' is about enough for me. I do it to make myself become a better climber.

Just consider that a 20' lanyard will give you <10' of useable length when running from side D to side D. A 10' lanyard can do close to the same when set up SRT. I've been using my side D rings less and less these days. Mostly for removals when getting to the single spar descent. Just a consideration...

I agree long landyards are not my game I have three diff lengths set up. A 8' 10' and 12' not really much difference though. I am beginning to look at the CE landyard by DMM. Has a lot of options, new year coming up which means buy buy buy. BTW have tried up to 15' and it was a PITA. Trees down here have a lot of congested canopies from lack of pruning maintenance, that thing hooked on any and everything. Paul.
