Kong futura foot ascender

I'd be willing to try it out! Anyone carry it yet, I havent seen it for sale anywhere. Looks small and compact. Doesnt look like it has anything to stop the rope from just popping out so easy like the CMI's have. Thats my one complaint about the Petzl.

I had one. Used it for an hour then the webbing started to rip. I honestly felt that there is a huge design flaw. The metal on the ascender was much to narrow, creating a very poor bend radius on the webbing causing it to literally start cutting.

I returned it to shelter tree and bought a petzl and haven't looked back

what i would really like to see is a foot ascender that you can "catch" the rope. something like a cleats the have in sailing that you can throw the rope onto to catch the sail. I think its possible. If it were designed well you could go foot over foot up the rope.

what would really be cool is if it were designed right into the boot.

This I think could be made to work.

[/ QUOTE ]With a spring loaded plate swinging over the open cams. Getting the rope in the easy way but not possible to 'kick' the rope out.

I think the plan is 'way too easy'.

I'm still pretty skeptical about Kong's commitment to quality after the ring fiasco.

Bah, what'd u know. What about all the other companies that have had recalls? This means you only going to use stuff you make yourself?

The foot ascenders where recalled. Last I heard. They have a new Chest/ body ascender out though

What I was referring too was the CMI's have a little thumb "switch" you have to slide open to open the cam all the way to either insert or remove the rope. Similar to most hand ascenders have the thumb "switch" you have to pull down to open the cams. I just dont like if you accidentally pull up in an awkward fashion, the rope can come out and then have to re-set.

It is a good design, but on the other hand, I think they're kind of clunky (bigger than the pantin). Probably sounds like I hate both but Im trying to figure out which one id like to buy for myself and not borrow other crew member's gear. Kind of why I was interested in how the Kong was.

I bought a CMI and climbed with it for a while. It's too big to leave on while climbing the tree. My Pantin has gone to lunch with me many times...sounds like spurs clicking. The thumb lock on the CMI isn't a selling point for me...too hard to thumb or toe open.

Me too! Until Kong can prove to me their commitment to quality.

You guys are too much, one ring thing. Just how many things have been recalled by petzl, cmi, what about all the junk walmart (you know who to insert here) sells thats been recalled. Ya'll still buy them and shop there right. Kong is a well made product they just had a ring problem that they fixed. Get over it

I took the cam lock out of a left handled petzl ascender and put it in my pantin. Not exactly kosher but works great.Easily clips back out of the way when not needed and prevents "spur jingle" when walking around with the pantin on.

Correct me if I'm completely off base but it was Kong who manufactured a ring that failed at a comp in front of spectators and then refused to accept any liability for the injuries the failiar causd.......I do have the facts correct there right?

Anyway, I like the CMI and the CT. I hate kick out, I have big feet so a slightly bigger ascender makes zero difference to me, and I can easily open the ascender with my other foot (took practice, but I'm good for it now). To each their own.

I retired my Pantin after getting tired of the rope popping all the time. Bought a CT Quickstep foot ascender. Totally happy with that. Never go back....
