Kong futura foot acender

Well, this kinda sucks. My brand new kong futura foot ascender has a rip in the webbing after only 30 min of use.

I have contacted my distributor and they are handleing it like true champs and are going to give me a new one. My only concern is that it's a design flaw that caused the webbing failure.

The webbing goes through a series of metal loops, that in my opinion, is entirely too tight of a bend radius and it cause the webbing to get cut by the metal ascender.

I'll post pictures when I get home.

Thanks to Jim (bostonbull) for being awesome and going to bat with kong for me

It worked okay.

I never used a petzl, I only own the cmi. It was a lot lighter and smaller profile then the cmi but it kicked out a lot easier.

In the futuras defense, the kong is a completely different camming system which makes it more susceptible to kick outs (open cam)

I honestly think it's a design flaw. The webbing us put under a heavy load (my body weight) and then run through thin metal. It's the metal is acting like a dull knife and forcing it's way through the webbing.

I'm going to give it another go before I make my final decision.

Though I like the simplified sleeker design, I don't like that it's a kong.

Which part broke:

I had the same problem with the isc foot box ascender... ripping straps after one day of lite use... a word to the companies we put our lives in.... TEST YOUR SH*T BEFORE you sell it to me.

Not always...my Pantin was purchased within 90 minutes of them being available in Minneapolis many years ago. I still have to first-run, original webbing...and it's going strong but just a little frayed.

Talk to CMI. I bet if it looks new and is ripped, they'll hook you up.

Better yet, give it to me. I'll sew a new strap on it and start using it right away!
