John Deere Gator HPX 4X4

Now on to more productive ways to spend my time.
My gator is down. The drive shaft to the front differential that engages the 4 wheel drive has thrown the bearing on the universal joint. I am thinking that I can just pull the dang thing out and just run it 2 wheel drive??? Anybody on here know anything about these vehicles? I cant think of a reason this wouldn't work but I might be missing something.
I did cal JD and all the tech would tell me was to take it in to the dealer.
$220 for just the parts.
I have around 600 hrs on it and have only used the 4X4 maybe twice.

Yes it will work without front driveshaft in.
I would take it to an auto supply and have the new U bearings pressed on.
Or if you have a vice and tools, do it yourself.

Pulled the driveshaft and it runs just fine. Wasnt as much of a PITA as I thought it would be so I went ahead and ordered the new parts.
