Is this safe?

I have some 1/2" Samson Blue streak rope that my foreman was going to throw away before I asked for it. Would it be safe to cut this rope into different lenghts and make slings out of it? I don't see anything visibly wrong with the rope except a few spots where a few of the strands look like they got caught on something and were pulled out a little, other then that it looks good. I planned to cut these spots out of the rope. If this is safe how would I got about making loops in the end of the rope with out using a splicing tool? (the samson splicing manual was on back order from where ever Barns-n-Nobles gets there books) Could I use a coat hanger or a home made fid?

Splicing used rope is extremely difficult.

Id be a bit concerned about using rope that someone was going to throw out. Do you know the history of the rope?

Assuming your considering making rigging slings of some sort?
Rigging scenarios see far greater loads than typical climbing scenarios, and although blue streak has a fairly high strength rating, you dont want to skimp for your slings.
As a rule of thumb, the weakest component in any rigging system should be the rigging line itself. Block and anchor slings see far greater loads and thus should be rated respectively.

Regarding the rope, use it to lash brush down on the trailer?
