Does it produce fruit? What does the fruit look like?I confirmed with my new wife that it is not a crab apple tree. Don't have any old leaves to go by, so only have bark, shape and buds to work with right now.
Not totally clear. Mrtree stated Malus which is the apple genus but that does not identify the tree. In order to correctly identify a tree you need not only a genus but a species as well. May be a species of crab apple. But difficult to establish from pictures.

New to me. My wife has been at the location for a number of years but not paid attention to what she has for trees. I want to know, so we can properly care for them.Depending on your location, it may just have taken a few years from bearing fruit. Where I am we just had a few crappy apple years, due to spring weather, pollinators, and pests... I am assuming that since you are asking this may be a new property to you and your wife?
