Is anyone else a fan or follower of Ernest Shackleton?

I read Endurance years ago. When I finished it, I resolved to never visit Antartica via any means nor for any reason whatsoever, thereby avoiding any chance of having to go thru what they endured, lol.

I'm thinking of reading it again, now.

I recall reading somewhere there was a big discussion amongst the expedition about saving the pictures and if it was worth the effort.
Someone opined (probably Shackleton, but happy to be wrong) that if they discarded them, it would all have been for nothing.

I just finished Endurance a few weeks ago, one of the best books I've read in a really long time. Unbelievable what those men survived...
I was reading it around the same time as you. We had the book on the shelf for years. Not sure what triggered me to finally read it. Great story. Google earth while reading adds to the understanding. I have moved on to H.W. Tilman and his entertaining shenanigans. I now have a desire for seal skin clothing and a sailboat... and also to learn celestial navigation.

Tilman does some Antarctic exploring to the same Shetland Islands that Shackelton's crew spent time on.

After reading Endurance you need to read the parallel book about the other half of the team. Put together, the story is better than any fiction writer could imagine

Anyone who is a fan of The Boss...not talking about Broooce...needs to read the other half of the story. It is just as amazing as the part that everyone knows,
