had an interesting day today. we had a pine blow over into a larger in size cherry tree, the pine was caught up in the cherry, the obvious solution was to hang the pine from the cherry, but the pine had been dead for a while and i didnt think that the tip could handle the full weight of the tree, also, there was about 20 feet in distance from the pine trunk to the cherry. we couldnt hang just part of the tree because then the rest of the stalk would fall uncontrolled
my solution, as weird and unorthodox as it may have been, was to set two line. i set a tip tie line for the top half of the tree and i set another line just below where i was going to place my mouth for the ground guys to pull the rest of the stalk. i made my mouth in the top half of the tree on the back side of the tree, not facing the block, and i made a small back cut. i then had my ground man make a mouth at the bottom of the tree and i had the ground crew pull on the second line. as the tree fell, the top mouth i made snapped perfectly as it passed the tip tie spot, then the lower part of the tree continued on its now completely controled path to the ground. after all was said and done, we had the bottom part of the stalk down safely and the top of the tree hung in the cherry. it was amazing
i know this was hard to follow, i need to start bringing a camera to work with me, but esentially i used my ground cut to finish my top tip tie cut, and to make matters even more fun, we had out pigs tail snap off of the grcs the other day so i had to make my own replacement using a sling and pulley. we all left the job feeling like a thousand bucks, proud of what we had accomplished. definatly not your everyday routine
