I'm teaching a class that includes making a soft shackle. First step is learning to tie a diamond knot. I've put together a handout with photos. I'd love to get some feedback on it. TIA.

Yes I prefer the diamond knot. I believe the diamond knot is large enough to make a very secure connection for the soft shackle. The button knot is a larger knot and more difficult to tie. It does result in a stronger soft shackle because the tails get buried. I prefer the tails sticking out of the end of the diamond knot. I whiplock the tails before cutting off the excess. It gives me something to poke through the noose of the soft shackle to help feed the knot through the noose.
