Insane customer requests

I'm sure the rest of you have had some clients request things that made you scratch your head in the past and say WT#.... I had the crazyest one for me this week. A guy who lived down the road from the tree I was working in at the moment stopped and asked if I accurate at falling a tree. The catch was he wanted me to drop a tree ON his pool but absolutely not hit or damage the filter equipment when the tree was felled. He wanted to collect the insurance money on the pool and could craigslist the filter equipment if I didn't wreck it. Holy freakin insurance fraud Batman!! I flat out said no thanks I want no part of that mess. Where do people come up with some of this stuff??!!

You could have just collected the money up front, dropped the tree into the clear (So that he wouldn't be able to use the tree for fraud in the future) and then say..oops, I missed, as you hop in the truck and drive off waving. ;-)

Now thats funny!

I get people asking me to cart off junk sometimes - since the chip truck has a big hole to fill, they think I want to fill it up with broken venetian blinds, old broken garbage cans, whatever.

I used to, but I won't take it anymore. I just kindly explain that I can't take that to the wood recycling facility.

After Irene went through here, I had two different customers ask if they could give me a grand for the use of my saw and keep my mouth shut for Ins purposes. No. I said. One customer gave me just over to finally remove the trees in ques. and the other asked me to leave. The nerve of some people.

Just yesterday I lost a BIG one to Bartl... something or other. They gave the customer a bill before the work was done and will be returning when the Ins check shows up. WTF!!!

I am debating pulling the plug on that one.

Totally. I can't top that request.

I love human nature. It's funny to see people point out neighbor's tree problems, when they don't see their own.

For example, I commonly get people wanting neighbor's trees to be cut back from the proeprty line because they don't like how it crosses into their yard.

Then, I politely ask, "Would you like me to prune back your tree so it's not on top of your neighbor's home?" They reply, "Why should I care about that?!"

I don't know about all insurance companies, but my last dealings has me gun shy about doing work before money in hand. I had a busted water pipe flood my bath and lr. Company comes out to clean up the mess and it took six or seven weeks to get them paid. I'm glad it was a big company that had the cash flow to survive things like that.

this seems right to me. Some neighbors stop at the line, some want to do their whole tree. If both sides are in agreement, it makes sense. Exception would be if one side got a proper pruning job and the other side got stripped/topped/etc. but that's on them, right?

I had a guy ask me to come over at night and drop a 65ft willow on his house he had just bought to flip. I replied no thanks two weeks later it fell over and missed the house. I got the job for clean up.
