Just noticed the title has USS Constellation instead of USS Constitution. Like the Constitution, the Constellation was also built under the Naval Act of 1794, but she was scrapped in 1853.

Ooops...I missed that, now its corrected.

"Scrapped' doesn't mean totally dismantled at the breakers. The history of the USS Constellation is another cool story.

Cool article. Some of the big European cathedrals have done the same thing, saving stands of big old oak trees for centuries, to repair their massive roof structures in case of fire or rot. Their roofs are usually covered with lead sheeting, many tons of it, and the timbering is incredibly complex and heavy to support it. When you look up at the stone vaulting overhead, maybe as much as 140 feet up, it is amazing to think that above that is a wooden roof the size of Boeing 747 hanger.

Yes...the story of rebuilding Notre Dame is similar. In some of these forests the trees are deliberately pruned and maintained to get rid of deadwood.
