Volunteers and Climbers,
Wow! Amazing! Awesome! Fabulous! Fantastic! There aren’t enough words to describe the recent Indiana Arborist Association’s Tree Climbing Championship held on September 25, 2010 at Forest Park in Noblesville, IN!
We wish it were possible to send each one of you a personal thank you card - but right now, as we continue to decompress, finish filling out forms and getting photos and documents to the website and newsletter people - it's just not something that we are able to do. So we have to do a group thank you and a group hug! We all worked really well together – in a group effort - to pull off a really great TCC event!
Many, many thanks to all the volunteers who turned out in huge numbers on Friday to set up and were back at the park bright and early Saturday morning and stuck with us thru the whole day. Thanks to the climbers who signed up and were able to be there and give us a day full of excitement.
Special thanks to Wright Tree Service who provided two awesome bucket trucks and operators - for Friday and Saturday!! Asplundh – thank you so much for sending us a bucket truck and two really great guys for Friday set up! Having that third bucket truck there made set up run even smoother than we could have hoped for. We could never have done it without you!!!
All the out-of-state volunteers (Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois) who came to Noblesville and brought lots of gear, helped with set up, judging events, and shared your experiences with us – Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
All of our Indiana volunteers who came in on Friday to help us and were back before daylight on Saturday – we send out huge amounts of gratitude to all of you for sticking with us. We had the pleasure of meeting some new volunteers and watching them jump right in and help out. And we got a chance to work with and spend time with others who we’ve come to rely on over the years.
Climbers - you guys are so talented and such a great bunch!!! This year we had two climbers from other states (North Carolina & Ohio) and it was good to see our Indiana guys have some great competition and get to know each other during the course of the day.
It is awe inspiring to watch you guys go thru the events. The camaraderie that you share and the way that you encourage and coach each other and push each other to keep going - to reach new heights - is just an amazing thing to see. Thank you climbers!!! Thank you for another awesome event.
To stand there and watch the sea of safety green tshirts on our volunteers as they worked so hard at their events and to see the orange tshirts of the climbers as the went thru the work stations – was just overwhelming for us. Everyone was pitching in and making it happen. And we had beautiful climbing weather which helped keep everyone’s spirits up and made it a most enjoyable day.
Congratulations to Cormac Nagan from North Carolina who finished first, overall in the preliminary events, and took home the $500 cash prize that was provided by Metro Arborist Supplies. Please visit their website at www.treestuff.com.
Cameron Arnold, Brian Mann and John Montgomery – you absolutely wowed the crowd with your climbing skills in the Masters’ Challenge tree!! Brian Mann finished first place and is eligible to represent the Indiana chapter in Australia next summer. Congratulations to all three climbers who made it to the Masters’ Challenge!
Thank you so much to the Board of Directors of the IAA for being so supportive and helping us whenever we needed assistance. All of you made yourselves available to us whenever we needed help or reassurance. Also thank you for the cash prizes awarded to our climbers!!
Thank you to Chris Durig, Area Representative, for Husqvarna for the donation of a climbing saw, chaps, Petzl hardhat and hearing protection. Rick ran into Chris at our local Husqvarna dealer and asked if it was possible to provide the IAA TCC some kind of sponsorship. Never did we expect anything like this. Brian Mann was awarded the climbing saw for his 1st place MC finish and Cameron Arnold received the chaps, hardhat and hearing protection for 2nd place.
When we were at the ITCC, in July, a couple of guys from Treeman Supply located in Morenci, Michigan (www.treemansupply.com) tapped us on the shoulder and asked if they could donate a prize to our event!! We invited them to come to the event and bring an exhibit. Our 3rd place Masters’ Challenge climber, John Montgomery, was awarded a Jameson pruner, saw and pole package compliments of Treeman Supply. Thank you guys! We enjoyed having you at our event and hope you will continue to come back each year!!
Once again, Arbormaster and the alliance partners donated a fantastic prize package to the 1st place Masters’ Challenge winner. Thank you Arbormaster for continuing to work with Oregon, Silky, Sherrill Tree, Samson and Husqvarna to make these prize packages possible.
The great folks at Arborwear – you are always so good to us!!!…..thank you so much for donating such great prizes and discount cards for our climbers.
Thank you to our financial sponsorships from Metro Arborist Supplies, Ken Clark Insurance, Townsend, Mark Poliak and the Brickman Group!! We couldn’t do this without your financial support!!!!
Thank you to Vince Condon and the ISA scoring team who were involved in putting together a scoring program that was easy to use and operated smoothly all day. Thank you Vince – for always answering our emails and for being available during our event to answer the phone and walk us thru a couple of things that we needed assistance with.
Huge round of applause for Sonia Garth at the ISA for NEVER being too busy to answer our questions and give us guidance – if your boss is reading this – you deserve a raise!!!
It has been such a privilege to have worked with all of you and we appreciate your efforts - before, during and after the event!!
As most of you have heard, this was our last year as TCC chair. The board is currently looking for someone to chair and put together a committee for next year.
It is hard work - but there are many rewards!! Friday and Saturday - watching all of the different tree services, climbers, volunteers, families, park people, the public - watching all of you come together to pull this event off - made the hard work worth the effort.
But it is time for us to pass the torch to a new chairperson. Maybe it's time for the next generation to step up to the plate and start taking charge!!
Watch for photos and results on www.indiana-arborist.org
Thanks again - to all of you for a safe and successful TCC!
