I'm a Topper !

This was from a sling with a block, half way up a large Pine, that was heavily weighted. Ouch!

I have seen the same issue in some trees that I have worked in also. Now when I am going to lower large wood or multiple pieces I will place some padding between the sling and the tree. (well saying it is just a prunning). Takes a few more mins, but in the long run you will minimize compression issues with the tree and you may just appear more proffesional.

Great thought Fairfield... what type of padding will you haul up? ... also, will 'fabric type' straps tend to ease up on the damage as well?

Re: I\'m a Topper !

I use my vinyl rope bags(easy to wipe clean of the pitch) and a have a couple of horse blankets for truck seat covers(durable and wash up easily to)

Folded over rope works to but is a pia.
Had 3" dbl braid rope from Macmillan bros from the West coast that was the best. If you are near a rope supply manufacturer ask to buy there cut offs of big dia.

cheers
