If you only had one.

No doubt about the masdaam. 3 strand is king with that device. Used it to pull wax myrtles out of a pond before. Nasty and muddy. Not something you want your good lines in. Good point.

9/16ths stable braid here too. I must admit I have had very good experiences with 1/2" double esterlon with a 6" eye splice for knotless rigging of light stuff under 1,000lbs

9/16 double braid does most of the rigging I do. It does the tops and most of the big wood that I come across.

Having a lighter rope is nice when it has to be yarded.

I'm with Tom on this one, plus 9/16" runs the best on my GRCS.

Interesting Chris...

My GRCS is supposed to be delivered early next week. I have always used the 5/8 line. Is the difference subtle or should I look into a 9/16?

For me, 9/16" is the best all around rigging rope that we use in the GRCS. Plenty strong for most trees that we deal with. You can get 5 nice tight wraps on the winch before cranking her up as well.

I do have a 5/8" db rigging line that we use as well with the GRCS, but only when blocking down really big pieces of wood.

I use 1/2" for small rigging with my Omni loopie, 9/16 for med and 5/8's for bigger stuff all samson stable braid....cant have enough rigging line

9/16 is our standby. Stronger than 1/2 but not really that noticeable size difference.

9/16" all day. I have 150' of 3/4" that hasn't seen any action in 8 years. About the time I pitch it...a storm will hit and I'll be begging for it back.
1/2" is a stand by too.

No one likes Super Braid? It has some qualities that Stable Braid doesn't (tighter outside, more round) but I hear Super hockles more and if that's the only drawback I'll stick with the Super. It does hockle for sure but easily managed.

I haven't tried the Super Braid yet.

When you say it hockles, is that the twisting that happens when running through devices? Like a portawrap?

I do like 5/8 stable on big stuff though. I mean, I guess you could run two, half inch lines, for the same thing...but then you need two blocks, and possibly a 2nd bollard. The 5/8 line just gives an extra level of confidence and quickness when necessary.

Hockles are the things that need to be shaken out before the portawrap. Use the other end of the rope every fifth job or so or when hockles start to be a problem.

Yes they are caused by a bollard device but a bad hockling rope will get them from just being coiled or slight tensioning. Those would be more kinardlies than hockles.

We like 11mm for
rigging usually there isn't much room to rig down large pieces but when there is I like my 5/8" double braid with dyneema core for static loads and pulling and a 3/4 2x braid for dynamics.

Cheers

3/4 stable braid 25' long with a long eye splice ............of course hooked to my crane

1/2" Amsteel 25' long with a long eye splice is what I like for my dead eye crane slings, but I too have some 3/4" Stable Braid that I spliced for crane slings that work great.
