I hate Snow

The only thing I climb this time of year is the built in stair master that leads to my bed.
The snow isn't bad it's the sub zero temps that kill the climbing here.

We've got a dozen or more inches and it's still coming down. The power went out last night around 7:30 so I stoked the fire up and started a snowball fight with the neighbor's kids. Then the neighbor came out and I was out numbered (4-1).

Just then my son comes out with his friends and somehow my neighbor jumped on my side and we battled the four boys. Good fun. They ran like school girls.

Now I'm going to write an article that's past due, shovel the cars out, take my kids out to build a fort and then watch the football games. They'll probably cancel my hockey game tonight so I guess there will be a few beers involved during the game watching. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif Tomorrow I'll be sick of the snow and pray for some warm sun to melt it away. But it's fun for a day or two.

MB,

Last May I moved to Denver to work for Swingle Tree Care as the training and education manager. I sure don't miss the cold. Yesterday I got a note from a friend in MN who said that he was at his cabin a couple of weeks ago and the air temp was -29, who knows what the wind chill might have been. 40 here today and we're enjoying on of our 300 days of sunshine...enough gloating :)

I put in 25 hours of snow clean up this weekend. I started at 2;00 a.m. Now I'm goin home to rest got prune trees in the snow tomorrow.

sure Tom rub it in a bit more! /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

near 40 degrees here today in MN, the snow is melting.
I dont mind the snow so much but can do without the brutal cold.
Then, like today warm temps mean melting snow, good for climbing, but sure is sloppy on the ground /forum/images/graemlins/9lame.gif

denver sounds nice /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I must go on record as saying that I love snow. Almost all types of snow. I love playing in it and I love working in it. I know from a business owners perspective it's not a good thing and it slows production down and it's hard to rake-up....but...I'm just like it.

Sorry.

love

I just wish the snow and ice would go away so I could go fishing...I know you guys are going to say something about ice fishing...but I want to be able to cast into the water instead of lower a line through a hole. /forum/images/graemlins/ukliam2.gif /forum/images/graemlins/vroam.gif /forum/images/graemlins/whax.gif /forum/images/graemlins/wildmonkey.gif /forum/images/graemlins/tomato.gifjust had to play for a sec...

Don't you guys in WI setup trolling lanes when you ice fish? In MN the serious ones would take their chainsaws and cut slots in the ice. Then they'd auger holes every so often. Drop your line in the slot and go for a walk or run depending on how fast you need to troll. When he get a bit, walk back to a hole to reel in the whopper.

If you do use the chainsaw, empty the oil reservoir and wash it with a solvent to keep the oil out of the lake. If you're using vegie oil I wouldn't worry as much but it still might sour the water for the fish.

When I cut holes for practicing ice rescues I made a flap for the front of the saw to keep the water off the motor. If the ignition gets wet you ground out. I'll bet that a generous spray down of WD40 or some other water displacer would help a lot. I took a piece of an old mud flap and bored a hole into it. Then I jury rigged it onto the saw. Think of it like a handguard on a sword. Wear a rainsuit because you're going to get sprayed.

I have to feel amazed at the complexity of your simplicity Tom....a school bus/chip dump, a cube van/all purpose vehicle, a log dogger yard tool, a four-wheeler forestry cruiser...and a lake saw for wintertime!

Maybe you should be a tinkerer/consultant when you retire, or get more money for thinking beyond the terms of employment.

One word of note when making line cuts in frozen lakes: don't do a radius around your position!
