I found my missing tire iron.

I found my missing tire iron, inside my wheel. I had been missing one of three tire irons since installing a new rear tire (on my XR65R) about two months ago, about 150 miles. I assumed that it had been kicked under the workbench or set in an unconscious place and it would soon turn up. After several shop clean-ups and scouring all the horizontal surfaces that become storage areas, no tire iron was found. The running joke was that it was probably inside my tire.

Christmas afternoon was sunny and my son and I thought it would be nice to go on a ride. We rode about two hours and headed home, leaving the trail and on to the pavement I noticed my rear tire was flat. The first thing my son said is “I bet it’s the tire iron”.
I removed the tire, my family gathered around with great anticipation and watched me remove the tube and then remove the eight-inch long tire iron. The iron had lodged its self between the tube and the sidewall of the tire. It fretted a small hole in the tube, thus the flat. I patched the tube, paid my son the dollar he won for the bet and rode again.

The funny thing about this story is that a recently retired from the US Coast Guard (twenty years) as an helicopter aviation technician. My primary duty was that of a quality assurance inspector. I implemented tool control programs, inspected work and certified the airworthiness of aircraft for flight.

Thought it was funny, maybe you will also.

LOL. Yeah, it happens. Like when I, the CTSP safety dude, showed up to the safety meeting and tripped at the doorway. Didin't break anything, but some of the guys almost lost their breakfast laughing so hard.

God does keep us humble...
