I cut two ropes yesterday...

Some days you just win the lottery. First cut of the day piecing out 12" dead wood from an enormous Q. falcata. Bad positioning plus a new guy on the ground... I was NOT paying close enough attention when slipped the already tied knot up after making the face cut (rigged negative on a block). As I made the backcut I nipped the marl which was caught on a nub on the back side. Fortunately it didn't fail since I was over an ancient dogwood and a beautiful Queen of Hearts redbud.

Less than an hour later, same tree, working out some dead tips I noticed my lifeline was knicked about 18" from the eye. I have no idea when or how I did it but it's bad enough that I went ahead and cut it off.

...it just HAD to be the spliced end.

It's been a long time since I last cut a rope accidentally. Thought it was worth mentioning.

Blinky, don't cut your ropes. Like George Carlin says "It's BS and it's bad for ya".

I generally try not to seeing as how it makes'em wear out faster... honest!

That sucks man. I feel for ya, even though your on the dark side.

Look at it this way. I'm sure you could use a new climbing line and the rigging line will make you plenty of good money when you replace it.

It sucks but at least your okay. Can I suggest you give tachyon a shot (if your not already doing it).

Where is that about cutting ropes? ...in the Best Practices or the Z? I remember minimum equipment standards but nothing about cutting ropes. It doesn't matter anyway, I'm to refined to be fined.

...and I'm ordering some Snakebite. Gonna try it for an access rope and use my now slightly shorter rope to work from. I'm on the fence about Tachyon, I like it but I'm so used to PI and Velocity... I fear ch, chhaa, ch ch, Channngggge.
