Husqvarna X-COM

Folks, I’ve been using SENA for years onsite. Made a switch to the XCOMs. The hearing pro doesn’t cut it with either: yes, the noise cancellation works, but it’s still too loud when chipping or running saws. I have typically used the 3M Peltors or the Hellbergs with the highest NRR being 27. Anyone have any suggestions?

I like Husqvarna muffs personally. They seem to grip my melon tightly with a good solid seal around the muffs, and I have not had any issues using them with SMH 10’s. I’m not familiar with Hellbergs but Peltors are my least favorite muffs, they clung to my head like a loose scarf.

We/I use Sena Expand Mesh with 33db rated ear plugs mainly. (Howard Leight Max 1)

I’ve used those plugs for 12+ years, been very happy with them.

The Sena are good enough, until something comes along that is demonstrably better.

I wear Sena while riding the ball, even though hand signals are known. It's easier to have the communication. Especially when the operator can't see the climber/pick. Sometimes I'm just flying straps while a second climber is making cuts. At this point I turn off coms when I'm near the chipper and/or running saw while getting the pick to lay down. There's times where I need to yell to someone and I quick muffle the mic by covering with a grasped hand.

I wish for better coms too. Sena, sometimes sucks.

To be clear, we also tap in and out of the linked conversation when running a chopper or long cutting sessions. I’m wondering about actual hearing protection, not the noise cancellation. Thanks for the input everybud. I think it’s clear that we’re all running the best there is. I do the Howard Leight plugs a well.

Best coms I’ve ever used are peltor lite com plus. They have their own set of down sides though.
Hands down the best noise cancellation which is also adjustable.

Down sides are you basically have to eat the mic or tune the noise cancellation down that picks up saws and other crap.
That and I forget the name but only one person can speak, so if it does pick up a saw or a chipper the other parties are locked out from speaking. (They do have a push to talk setting for the person chipping!)

That and the price is awful
I got a few sets at about 200 per off eBay as NOS so I’m sure there are more updated models. Range is good but relies line of sight

Voice activation makes for a slight delay, first word or so gets cut in half.
