Husky or stihl

I'm a dolkita guy myself. 64/73/7900 all the way! Beyond that I have both husky(394xp) and stihl(200t). I love them both, but I also chose best in class models for both...

I run a few saws that have max flow filters and a neat trick is to cut about 6” off a pantyhose leg and put that over the filter. Works great, you can just brush it off with a cloth or a glove and it takes much longer before you have to wash the filter. I’ve been cutting timber in an area that burned and the ash and soot was terrible. Clogged filters fast. I started using the pantyhose trick and went from cleaning my filters everyday to cleaning them once or twice a week.
Which saw was that on.

Awesome trick - will try that next job I get fine dust... cheers for sharing...

How have the huskys been doing in that area with that nasty stuff, that will put them all to the test. Great place to test new saws for these companies.
The husky’s seemed to let a lot of fine material into the throat of the carb otherwise they did fine. I would have tried the pantyhose trick on them but I started running the stihls. Both brands in my opinion are excellent saws, I’ve never had any significant problems with either and I have several of each. And a few echo 2511t’s which I really like for pruning and small removals.

Good to know it's something to watch for. So it was coming through the filter, or under it.
Usually all the problems I run into with saws are operator error, sometimes by me :rayos:.
I've been talking with the guys about the 2511 as I'll be grabbing one up whenever I can get a deal on one.
Amazing how small they are, and a complete teardown of them is very simple in comparison to other top handles as are mods. I had my buddies in hand and was very impressed although I haven't cut with one, yet :).
Watch for fines getting under the filter on the 2511, the seal on it looks great, but is not sealing them tightly, a little grease does the job though.

Good idea on the grease. I was just thinking about putting pantyhose on a husky filter and I don’t know how well it would work. Be tough to get that seal and it might be hard to keep the hose material from spinning/winding around the hold down screw. Works great on a foam max flow though. And you’ll like the 2511. Did a muffler mod and ignition timing advance on one and it makes a big difference. I’ve got a 3/8 chisel chain on it and it absolutely sucks for pruning, too aggressive but it kicks ass on small removals. I’m going to try to get one of the porting gurus to work on one and see what happens.

That's what I've been told about them also. Since I don't do much pruning it doesn't matter much for me which chain as long as it's does well power wise.
Here's your guy, he's already done quite a bit on them.

How far did you go with the timing? 5°? I've been impressed with the 2511 so far, but I can tell the muffler is stuffed.

Good morning BB.
Buddy out west just uncorked the muffler on his and said it helped a bit.
Try 5 and see how she does, couldn't hurt.
The guy in the vids above would share info and does on another forum, not sure if he has specific info in the 2511. He mentions the forum in one of those vids in the comments ;).

I'm sold on that little echo, yes he knows what he's doing inside a saw.
Guy who's on a couple other forums, his name is Mitch.
He has lots of great videos.
He's pretty quick to respond to questions from my experience.
