husky 540xp carb problem

Yeah its definitely a pain to get to this one. The improvement is worth it though. I think on my next one I might pay the saw shop to disassemble, and then reassemble after I mod the muff.

Mine did the same thing. There is a vent from the fuel tank to just behind the air filter that has a little white filter/valve thing that doesn't work properly and once the saw gets hot the pressurized gas is pushed into the intake flooding the saw. I replaced the little white filter thingy once and after is failed again I just stuck a BB from a BB gun into the vent line and havent had the same problem since. So far my 540 has been the biggest POS yet. Just bought a new 201tc-m last week hopefully it's better than my 540.

ETA: the saw would only dump fuel into the intake when hot when either hanging or in the bucket scabbard. I'm thinking its a design flaw that some engineer never thought that the saw would be in a bar down position for extended periods.
Yeah nice. thanks for the info mate!! super annoying. having it looked at at the moment!! let you know how it goes!!

We've been through x4 540's, all had the same problem. I used every type of fuel with no luck. Better stock up on extra starter cords because you'll wear them out.
I have looked deep in my soul several times asking myself why I don't want to throw that saw out of the tree at 80'.
We had to switch to the 201's and are much happier but all the other husky saws I'm confident with.
Stihl for top handles
Husqvarna for regular and big saws and blowers
Echo for pole saw
(Cabovers for trucks)

Chiselbit-

Finally getting around to muff modding the t540. did you just enlarge the opening under the deflector or did you do anything with the baffle inside?

I enlarged the opening under the deflector and I also drilled thru the baffles. Opened it up in there pretty good.
