Hurricane clean-up

Location
PA
I am looking for any Hurricane work down south. I went down last fall and helped with the clean up from Katrina and loved doing it. Anybody know of anything let me know, I have my gear ready and myself ready just need to know when and where to be. Thanks!

Last time one of the guys on the crew found the ad on this site, I think and we went down for a week...talk about grueling work, but man was it worth it! I'll look into the fema thing, never thought of that.

If anyone does know of anything tho, I have a crew of about 4 guys willing to go, just let us know.

I got this in an email today from Tree Service Direct.

We don't normally send out things like this but please read below, If you can help out or know someone who could, please give them a call with the info below, TSD is just passing on the message to help out the people of Baton Rouge.

We are in need of experienced climbers ASAP due to the devastation of trees throughout the Baton Rouge metro area! We are SWAMPED with work and our crews and climbers cannot get to every one on our call list-----How do we send out an SOS for climbers from outside Louisiana? Can TSD post our EXPERIENCED CLIMBERS NEEDED notice somehow so that fellow members from other states can assist us? Responders must have their own transportation and would also be responsible for their own lodging. PRECISION TREE SERVICE will furnish gear and saws if necessary. WE NEED HELP

I got the e-mail also from TSD. How do you charge for something like that. We are all the way in Illinois, if we had guys willing to go there, we'd have to pay for their lodging, food and all that. How do you do that? I'd love to help, but I don't want to look greedy, but I also can't afford to donate all our profits...

Hey thanks for the tip-off. I sent them an email and if I don't hear anything back by the end of today, I'll give em a call in the AM. And personally it's not about looking greedy. We are skilled professionals, do you really think they want newbies up there trimmin and hangin from ropes and saddles having no idea what the hell they're doing? I sure as hell would pay top dollar just so I didn't have that hangin over my head. People live and learn you always get what you pay for.

I got an update today saying the company has had a HUGE response and is now adequately staffed. No more help needed. HOwever, you may still give them a jingle. There are bound to be some that show up and then run like hell.

Christina, to bid stuff like this (not that I have any large amount of experience-i dont), take your hrly rate at home, add about $35/day for food (each person), $75/nite hotel (can be split for 2 guys), double your fuel costs and that MIGHT get you in the game. I did an ice storm locally here last winter. I basicaly doubled my hrly rate and came up about even.

Hey guys, I may be looking for a few climbing crews if a contract I'm working on comes through in the Hurricane Gustav area. A couple of the guys above have worked with me before (this is Mark Taylor from Pensacola, FL), I pay well and try to take good care of everybody.

There is going to be a lot of rope climbing involved, bring the spikes but won't be able to use them on every job.

I'll know more Friday or Monday at the latest. Let me know if your interested, you can email me at mark@pensacolatreecare.com
